About Us

We are a small chorus of Sweet Adelines International, Region 21.  Since chartering in 2011, we currently have about 20 members who work hard and have a lot of fun in the process.

Our Goals:

  • To be an excellent performing group in Albuquerque, and
  • To be a chorus where each member takes full personal responsibility for herself.

Our Leaders:

Sandra Squires, Route 66 Sound Director                Certified Director, SAI

Music became an official part of my life beginning with classical piano instruction at the age of eight. A few years later I started playing the accordion. I performed with Mr. Bert’s accordion band and competed locally with both instruments. I also sang alto with and accompanied choruses through high school. I was a gleek before it was cool!

In 1998, I was introduced to the local New Mexico Sweet Adelines International chapter  (via an acquaintance from a ballroom dance club) and became a member in time to participate in the Region 21 chorus competition that year. These women were crazy talented and fun. I didn’t miss a Regional or International competition for the following ten years. I held positions on the music and administrative teams, performed and competed with quartets and accompanied the chorus at Christmas performances. Currently, I direct and sing tenor in the Route 66 Sound Chapter. I also sing tenor in Southwest Edition Quartet.

Singing and traveling with these wonderful women has been a blessing in my life and I treasure the friendships that have been extended to me. Come harmonize with us and make your own musical memories and friendships.

Andrea Rostel, Route 66 Sound Assistant Director    Certified Director, SAI

Our Quartets

Southwest Edition

You probably already know Southwest Edition, with different personnel combinations, they’ve been entertaining audiences in Albuquerque and around New Mexico since February of 1998…twenty years! This particular foursome of friends has been singing together for eight years. Sue Bowdoin, singing lead, is the quartet’s only original singer since 1998. She also sings with Blue Skies Singers, an ensemble of six friends who study voice with Donna McRae and present an annual concert each spring. Judy Moore joined in 2004 and sings baritone. She’s a retired mathematician from Sandia National Labs who currently works with students in the MATHCOUNTS program, and also tutors elementary students in APS and is the current chorus President. Andi Rostel became the quartet’s bass in 2007 and is the Assistant Director for the chorus. She’s a regional quartet champion and has been noted to be one of the best bass singers in our organization! Andi is an RN in the Risk Management Dept. at UNMH. The quartet’s tenor since 2010, Sandy Squires is retired from State Farm, and has been the director of Route 66 Sound Chorus for the past seven years. All four are members of the Route 66 Sound Music Team as well as long time musical and administrative leaders in their respective Sweet Adeline careers on the chorus and regional level.
To experience this special blend of harmony at your next event, contact them at 505-239-4357. Southwest Edition is fortunate to have been part of every one of Route 66 Sound’s annual shows over these seven years. We love singing with these ladies and are very proud to be part of one of the most exciting and award winning choices for women’s barbershop in town!
